Purpose & application

These standards apply to Coincident services where incorporated into your organization’s agreement. They protect the integrity of the service, the rights of people represented in research, and the distinction between simulation and observation. They supplement the agreement; they do not expand the scope of access or services you purchased.

Lawful sources & authorized access

Use only information you are entitled to provide and process. Observe applicable privacy, intellectual-property, confidentiality, election, and anti-discrimination obligations. Public availability is not blanket permission to collect, republish, or infer sensitive information about a person.

  • Do not bypass authentication, access controls, paywalls, or restrictions on a source.
  • Do not upload stolen material, credentials, or information subject to restrictions incompatible with the engagement.
  • Do not attempt to identify people from data supplied as de-identified or to access another customer’s workspace.

Integrity of findings

Keep synthetic outputs distinguishable from human evidence. Preserve material assumptions, caveats, source provenance, and uncertainty when sharing results. Independently check consequential claims.

  • Do not fabricate survey participation, source quotations, endorsements, or validation results.
  • Do not represent generated profiles or statements as the views or actions of identifiable people.
  • Do not use the service for impersonation, fraudulent communications, fabricated public participation, or deliberately misleading claims.

People & consequential decisions

Do not use the service for harassment, unlawful discrimination, intimidation, suppression of lawful civic participation, or other infringements of individual rights. Do not use synthetic inferences as the sole basis for decisions about employment, credit, housing, insurance, healthcare, legal status, or access to essential services.

Research about a population does not establish facts about a particular individual. Uses involving sensitive personal information, children, or regulated decision-making require a separately approved scope, an appropriate legal basis, and safeguards. The service is not designed for safety-critical control or decisions where failure could cause physical injury.

Service integrity

Do not introduce malware, overload systems, evade usage limits, share access with unauthorized users, or probe for vulnerabilities without written authorization. Respect the access permissions and limits associated with your engagement.

Human review & reporting

An accountable person must review outputs before consequential use. Evaluate source quality, suitability, bias, and uncertainty for the specific decision. A favorable modeled outcome is not a guarantee of what will happen.

Report suspected misuse or a security concern to contact@coincident.org. Include a concise description and enough context to investigate, but avoid sending credentials or unnecessary personal information. We may investigate and take proportionate protective action subject to the customer agreement and applicable law.
